iPhone Price Drop: What’s Your Opinion?

As an early iPhone adopter, I willingly paid a premium price for the bragging rights to a groundbreaking new gadget.

But who knew it would be a mere 2 months from the iPhone release date before Apple would drop the iPhone price by $200 and unveil a new iPhone-like iPod touch media player?

iPhone Bluetooth Headset Review

I purchased the Apple iPhone Bluetooth headset three days ago for a thorough unboxing and review of the $129 iPhone accessory. The headset came neatly stuffed with a dock and travel cable in a simple black box the shape and size of iPhone’s.

See photos of the box and its contents in my iPhone Bluetooth headset unboxing after the jump. Or if you prefer, skip straight to my iPhone Bluetooth headset review.

Apple Has No Right to Break Your Unlocked iPhone (See Proof)

Owners of unlocked iPhones are rightfully nervous after Apple said yesterday that it “has discovered that many of the unauthorized iPhone unlocking programs … will likely result in the modified iPhone becoming permanently inoperable when a future Apple-supplied iPhone software update is installed.”

Worse, if your unlocked iPhone breaks, Apple will not fix it under the warranty, which they say becomes void if you tamper with the iPhone software.

Panic over having your unlocked iPhone damaged by an Apple software update may or may not be justified. One user on an Apple Discussions thread thinks “Apple is going to make it sound a lot worse than it actually is since they are the ones who don’t want you to do it in the first place,” referring to the software unlock that lets you use your iPhone on cell phone networks other than AT&T.

I’m writing today to prove that Apple has no legal right to break your unlocked iPhone, according to U.S. Copyright law. There’s a lot of hard-to-understand technical jargon on the U.S. Copyright Office website, but bear with me and I’ll translate to English:

UF Taser Incident & Mobile Video Cameras: Wake Up iPhone!

UF Taser incident on iPhone

By now, many of you have heard of Andrew Meyer, the University of Florida student who was shocked with a Taser by police at a UF question-and-answer session with Senator John Kerry. My intention is not to discuss whether the officers crossed the line or not, but to point out the power of the Internet video revolution (i.e. YouTube) in spreading a story like this, and to question why Apple is not participating in it with the iPhone.

iPhone Text Message Privacy: How to Turn off SMS Preview

In my original iPhone review, I complained about having little privacy on the iPhone when receiving incoming text messages.

When you receive an SMS message on your iPhone, a preview of the message content pops up on the screen, and you can choose to either view it or ignore it. While this “SMS Preview” feature may be very convenient, it could be troublesome if a friend or family member is playing with your cool new gadget and a message you’d rather have remained private pops up on your screen – ouch!

iPhone Invisible Shield Review

Invisible Shield Package

Invisible Shield screen protectors are best known for being made of a material created by the military to protect helicopter blades from wear and tear.

If it can protect a helicopter blade, you would think it could protect my glass iPhone display effortlessly, right?

Eager to test an iPhone Invisible Shield’s durability for myself, I e-mailed Shield Zone and asked if they’d donate one of their screen protectors for me to review, fairly and honestly.

They agreed. So I received the ShieldZone package 4 days ago and applied the Invisible Shield to my iPhone right away. I considered how easy it was to apply, its attractiveness, and of course, its ability to withstand scuffs and scratches.

See how it fared in my iPhone Invisible Shield review after the jump:

iPhone Software Update 1.0.1: My Experience

iPhone Software Update

Apple issued the first iPhone software update today via iTunes. iTunes should automatically alert you of the update, but if it doesn’t, simply click your iPhone in the Devices menu and then click the “Check for Update” button.

The update is primarily a security fix that patches up recently-exposed vulnerabilities in iPhone’s Safari browser. As much as I wish it were so, no new features or widgets have been added to the iPhone at this time.
